In 2020, Pasco County launched a five-year project (Pasco 2050) to update its Comprehensive Plan (Comp Plan) - a long range planning tool that guides decision making about how the County will grow over a 25-year time period. The Comp Plan outlines goals, objectives, and policies for managing growth while protecting the health, welfare, and quality of life of existing and future residents. In 2023, the Pasco 2050 update process reached its major milestone: the publishing of <a href="https://pasco2050.com/14882/widgets/44786/documents/48161" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Envision Pasco 2050</a> &mdash; a community-driven vision document that was the result of a robust public engagement campaign. In 2024, the Pasco 2050 project team embarked on the rewrite of the 13 chapters of the existing Comp Plan to ensure compliance with changes in state law and regulations, respond to changes in land use and population, and set goals and priorities based on the community vision.&nbsp;The Pasco 2050 Comp Plan Update is slated for completion and adoption in December 2025. Major changes to Pasco 2050 include: <ul><li>Consolidation of existing elements into themed chapters</li><li>Consolidation of existing Future Land Use Categories</li><li>Creation of Mixed-Use Land Use Categories</li><li>Updated Future Land Use Map</li><li>Edits per Florida Statutes</li><li>Removal of outdated and completed policies</li><li>Deletion of repetitive policies across multiple elements.</li><li>Updates based on community engagement and advisory board participation.</li></ul>
